A Children’s Hospital’s in Michigan has reportedly established a one of a kind anti-bullying program in conjunction with a local mediation center. The Beaumont Children’s Hospital‘s No Bullying Live Empowered (NoBLE) anti-bullying program was created to help parents and schools effectively react to and combat bullying behavior. According to the hospital’s medical director, Dr. Marlene Seltzer, the unique program utilizes mediation to open communication channels between parents and schools.
When a school-age child is the victim or instigator of bullying behavior, schools and parents now have the option to utilize the private, voluntary mediation program to create a plan designed to stop harmful behavior. As part of the NoBLE anti-bullying program, participants engage in the mediation process with the assistance of a specially trained mediator from the Oakland Mediation Center who has experience dealing with bullying issues and a licensed master’s social worker. Through mediation, the parties explore potential solutions to stop bullying conduct. Often, the mediation process also helps the parties to better understand one another’s point of view.
According to Dr. Seltzer, programs like the Beaumont Children’s Hospital’s NoBLE anti-bullying program may help to preserve a child’s long-term psychological health and improve the student’s overall education experience.
We would love to hear your thoughts on the interesting program.
