Electronics giants Apple, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. have reportedly agreed to engage in mediation over the companies’ latest technology dispute. In Apple Inc. v. Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., No. 11-1846 (N. D. California), the two smartphone manufacturers are once again at odds over patented technology related to Samsung’s Android operating system. According to Apple, Samsung infringed on a number of technology patents when it created the Galaxy S3 and other smartphones.
The parties have apparently agreed to engage in mediation before February 19th. If a settlement agreement is not reached, Apple and Samsung are scheduled to go to trial on the matter in late March. In recent years, Apple has prevailed in two separate patent infringement lawsuits against rival Samsung and received nearly $1 billion in settlement awards.
